March is a month of transition. Winter’s chill begins to loosen its grip in many places, and spring peeks over the horizon. Here are some ideas for things to do in March:
- Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th). This Irish holiday is a global celebration of Irish culture. People wear green, drink green beer, and eat corned beef and cabbage. There are also parades and other festivities.
Watch the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament (Selection Sunday is on the first Sunday of March, with the championship game on the first Sunday of April). College basketball fans across the country tune in to March Madness, as 68 teams compete for the national championship.
Go on a spring break trip. For many students, March means spring break. This is a great time to take a trip to a warm and sunny destination.
Plant a garden. As the weather starts to warm up, March is a great time to plant a garden. You can plant vegetables, flowers, or herbs.
Do some spring cleaning. After a long winter, your home may be in need of a good cleaning. March is a great time to declutter your belongings and freshen up your space.
- Learn about the history of the Ides of March (March 15th). The Ides of March is the day that Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC. It has since become a symbol of betrayal and misfortune.
